Collaborative Nutrition Support and Health Education for Pregnant Women and Young Children in Hulawa

Suryani has felt a significant difference over the past year. For the Midwife Coordinator of the Buntulia Community Health Center (Puskesmas), one of the essential factors in reducing stunting in Hulawa Village is ensuring that pregnant women and young children consistently receive adequate nutrition. That need has been met over the past year through the Supplementary Feeding Program (PMT), supported by Pani Gold Mine, which operates in Hulawa Village, Buntulia District, Gorontalo Province, in collaboration with the health center where Suriyani works and the Hulawa Posyandu.

Since it began in late 2024, the monthly PMT program has reached around 15–20 pregnant women and 5–9 children under five who, based on Posyandu monitoring, are categorized as having poor nutritional status. During each session, posyandu cadres and medical staff conduct weighing, recordkeeping, and nutritional monitoring, while Pani Gold Mine provides logistical support and distributes nutrition packages to pregnant women and young children. The program also conducts routine health monitoring and, just as importantly, delivers health education.

“This program ensures that families have access to additional nutrition,” Suryani said. “At the same time, we can directly deliver education on healthy consumption habits to the pregnant women and young children who attend.”

Health workers from Puskesmas Buntulia regularly conduct screenings and provide nutrition education, emphasizing the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding, clean and healthy living habits, and family-based prevention of anemia and stunting. With combined nutritional support and health monitoring, the hope is that families become more capable of managing food intake and child care.

The PMT had been running for one year when it was held at Hulawa Posyandu on 13–15 November 2025. Over the three-day activity, 90 beneficiaries received assistance. The PMT packages distributed included mung bean porridge, five eggs for each participant, milk for pregnant women, and specialized milk for children with stunting.

“We are committed to providing long-term support to improve the health of pregnant women and children, especially those who require nutritional intervention,” said Mahesha Lugiana, CSR Manager of Pani Gold Mine. “Our collaboration with Puskesmas Buntulia and Posyandu Hulawa is a strategic step to help the local government reduce stunting rates.”

The program has been well received by the community. “There have been many positive changes, especially for mothers who need nutritional support,” said Farma D.J. Mooduto, one of the pregnant beneficiaries. “I hope this program continues for the sake of our children’s health.” Through PMT, Pani Gold Mine aims to help strengthen the long-term health foundation for the next generation in Pohuwato.
